Chuck E. Cheese will come visit the school at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26th as well. Feel free to bring any children up to visit (CDO or not). Please help us spread the word to anyone about our event. The more, the merrier! The event is open from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. and we receive 15% of all that is purchased through the registers. We just have to tell the cashiers to credit it to CDO! What a fun time and a great opportunity!~

CDO will be having a party at Chuck E. Cheese. Please share this with anyone who has children and enjoys pizza. CDO will receive 15% of all sales. This is a great way to have fun as a family and contribute to CDO as well.

In addition, there is a "Get Dressed" calendar you can print. If you child gets up on time every day for two weeks, he or she can turn in the calendar and receive 10 free tokens. What a great incentive!

SUMMER SPLASH

Summer Splash starts on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Children (ages 2 - Pre-K) should bring something to rest on. Everyone should bring a lunch that does not need to be heated or refrigerated. We still have a few spaces available. Just show up on Tuesday and we can take care of the rest!

Graduation Plans

Graduation ceremonies and promotion program has been changed to the evening of May 28th. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. A light supper will be provided following the program.

CDO will have early dismissal at 12 noon.

1. Our Graduating Pre-K’s will be in cap and gowns. Parents will receive the cap as a memento. Gown rental is $8.00. Each Pre-K will receive a diploma.
2. Our Undergrad children will wear Sunday clothes. Each child will receive a certificate of promotion.
3. Each class will have a special part in the program and all children are asked to participate.
4. Please feel free to invite friends and relatives. We are now able to comfortably seat 200 people.

Needing some stuff!

Hi Everyone~

As you all know, we are still working on getting our rooms/facility fully supplied with toys and such. We have three needs/wants right now. I wanted to check to see if any of you just might have any of the requests:

1. Little Tike (or something like it) Work Benches - we could use two or three.

2. Little Tike or Radio Flyer (or something like it) Wagon - we could use two. These would be used to transport our younger children on walks outside or used in an emergency to help evacuate.

3. Little Tike or Step 3 (or something like it) Play houses - we could use two or three of these. We will have a great play area for our children two and up but we would also love to have some playhouses for our little, little ones.

If you have any of these items or would like to make a cash donation to purchase one, please contact me ASAP!

Dear Parents and friends of CDO,

As we are quickly approaching our move in date of March 31, we can use your help! Remember all those toys you put up in your attic because your little one has outgrown them but you just couldn’t throw them away? Well, we have a place for them.

The new church needs toys and other items for small children. Below is a list items that can be used. If you have something not on the list, we might can still use it! Please contact Kristi Lounsbury (940-482-1977 or email) if you have items to donate. There are some things that we will not want as duplicates. The donations can be brought to the new church after April 1.

All items need to be clean and working. No guns or toys promoting violence.

Tuesday, February 17: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon: Jana Zavishlak's home (10817 Jackson Rd, Krum). Jana is asking that you not drop off your child. Please plan to stay with them during their play time. Please bring a lunch.

Wednesday, February 25: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon: Heros (in Denton http://www.herosdenton.com/ Take Loop 288 heading East. You will cross HWY 380 and then McKinney Street. At the next light (Morse Street) turn left. We are on the left in the Pecan Creek Business Center. Morse Street dead ends into Mayhill.) Cost is $6.00 for the kids to jump in tons of bounce houses for two hours!!! I believe there is food available to purchase on site.

Valentines Party

What: A Valentines Day Party
Who: All CDO Children (and younger siblings),

When: Thursday, February 12; 10:00 a.m - Noon
Where: First Baptist Church (Krum) in their Lodge

Details: During the party we will play a couple of games, decorate our Valentine bags, decorate cookies and eat a lunch

(hot dogs, chips, drinks and our decorated cookies)

Please bring enough Valentines for 40 children.
This should cover our "extras."

Also, instead of renting the facility, I am asking each child to bring

2 or 3 canned goods for the Special Touch Food Bank.

Death and Redemption

As I walked into the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church this evening, nothing had really changed. The tables were set up. Supplies were on the counter. Oh, yes, the walls that once enclosed the two classrooms and the CDO office were gone. But, they were gone last week. Nothing new.

Oh, but something had changed. Something big had changed. As I looked around and saw the sleep mats in the cubbies, the numbers to 100 on the walls, the diapers and wipes for the little ones, my heart was filled with sadness. There will be no more CDO in this beloved building. I began to weep inside when I realized that no more would the children and parents come into this building in the same way: with great anticipation of what learning would take place on this day. No more squeals and laughter that only 25+ children can make. I think the old building will miss these wonderful times.

Time was cut short for CDO. Things have happened that just don't allow us to continue in this building. So, now, what do we do? We can smile or cry over the memories. We can be angry or happy that we are moving on. It is up to each of us how we deal with our grief. I have only known this church building for five months. I can only imagine the grief that will be felt by those who were literally raised in this building. The memories that have been forever embedded into the walls. The weddings, the baptisms, the funerals, the first day of "school" - all milestones for so many.

You know, Jesus' time was cut short. Or was it? The saying, "Things happen for a reason" seems to fit here. We definitely don't always understand those reasons - especially if we are right in the middle of "things." I'm pretty confident that even though Jesus was more than willing to follow his Father's will, he didn't really know his life would end at 33. But, the Loving and Gracious God saw reason to end it at that time to redeem the world. And, Jesus did raise from the dead only three days later to be the Savior to all.

I look at this time that CDO is "dead" as a time that is actually redeeming. It is a time to evaluate our mission to serve children. How can we do it even better? How can we be even more of a Christian influence in our community? Take the time to deal with that grief so that in just a few short weeks, when the new building opens, new life will radiate from it. The First United Methodist Church Children's Day Out will come alive again.

CDO PLAY DATE

All CDO children are invited to our first play date. It will be held at Steve and Stacie Fowler's home on Tuesday (February 3) from 9:00 a.m. til noon.

The kiddos will get to play for a couple of hours and then lets all plan to eat lunch together. Please bring a sack lunch!

Directions to the house: Go west on Hwy 380 about 5 miles. Turn right onto Jackson Rd. Keep going straight. House is the fourth on the left.

CDO to remain closed until April 7, 2009

The air quality test on the UMC building has been returned. There is no evidence of asbestos in the air.

However, in the best interest of everyone involved, the Board of Directors of CDO have voted to remain closed until we are able to be in the new building. Our anticipated date of re-opening is April 7th.

I am currently looking for parents who would like to volunteer their home to host a play date for the children of CDO. I am hoping to have play dates once a week until we are able to be in the new building. If you are interested, please contact Kristi.

CDO to be closed January 27 and 29

CDO will be closed next week - January 27 and 29. Although we have been assured by two professionals that our building is safe, we want to take that extra step of pre-caution and wait for the results of an air quality test that will be conducted.

We are hoping this will be conducted in the next few days and we can resume our classes as soon as possible. Because of this inconvenience to your plans, we would like to offer a $25 reduction in next month's tuition.

Situations like this will help us to appreciate our new building so much more! We look forward to our move-in at the first of April. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Board Director, Peggy Nichelson, at 214-724-1920.

Construction Update!

When we return on Thursday, January 22 from our break, our classrooms will look a lot different. The new owner of the building will be knocking out the interior walls of our basement. That means that Ms. Page and Ms. Misty's classrooms will become open air. Ms. Kristi's office will be moved to the corner area of Ms. Page's old room. We are looking forward to our wonderful new classrooms in the new building and the challenge of the moving process.

I hope everyone had a great holiday! I just want to remind everyone to bring back their blankets and nap mats on Tuesday. I know most people took theirs home to wash them.

Also, Ms. Page's class will start building up to count all the way to 100. In a week or so, we will start sight words too. Watch for an information sheet on our words soon.

UPDATED information regarding our Christmas Program on December 18th.
The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. Please plan to pick up your child after the program from their classroom. We will NOT be serving a meal following our program. There will be cookies, cocoa and cider and fellowship in the main room for all to enjoy!

Feel free to invite Grandpas and Grandmas, aunts and uncles. The more the merrier!
